Construction and welfare cleaning – Metlen

A project at the forefront of net zero

Oculus are providing round-the-clock cleaning support to Metlen at one of the North West’s most significant infrastructure projects, a major carbon capture facility taking shape in Ince, Cheshire. Our team covers the full construction and welfare estate on site, working 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to keep the project moving through every stage of the build programme.

The facility forms part of the wider effort to position the North West at the leading edge of the UK’s journey towards net zero. Once operational, it will capture significant volumes of CO2 that would otherwise enter the atmosphere, supporting cleaner industrial processes and the UK’s long term carbon reduction goals. The project connects to the wider HyNet carbon capture and storage network, which will transport captured carbon for permanent storage.

For Oculus, being trusted to support a project of this importance, and the client delivering it, is something we are proud of.

Cleaners on site at Metlen

The Brief

A construction site of this scale brings together a large workforce spread across a complex of more than 40 site cabins, alongside offices, canteens and welfare areas. Metlen needed a cleaning partner able to keep every one of those spaces safe, compliant and presentable, without interruption, across a demanding build programme on a site that does not stop.

Our approach

We mobilised a dedicated on site team led by an experienced site supervisor, with our Head of Operations, Brian Higham, overseeing delivery throughout. Successful delivery on a project like this is built on strong leadership, careful planning and, above all, a committed team on the ground. That combination is what allows us to hold the high standards our client expects, day and night, seven days a week.

Everything we do on site is delivered to our ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 accredited management systems, so quality, environmental responsibility and the safety of everyone on site are built into the way we work. On a project dedicated to cutting carbon, that environmental discipline matters.

Adapting through the build programme

As the project has progressed, so has our role. The team recently moved from the cabin cleaning phase into the first stages of builders clean ahead of handover in the coming months, while continuing our seven-day-a-week cleaning across all cabins. Adapting with the build programme, rather than working to a fixed template, is what keeps the site presentable and ready as it moves towards completion.

Working as one team

From identifying the opportunity and mobilising teams, through delivering services and ultimately supporting handover, this project is a clear example of what can be achieved through collaboration, commitment and teamwork. Our thanks go to everyone involved on the ground and to Metlen for their continued support and partnership.

“Another fantastic week on site supporting our client Metlen at the groundbreaking carbon capture facility in Ince, Cheshire.

This project is helping to position the North West at the forefront of the UK’s journey towards net zero. Once operational, the facility will capture significant volumes of CO2 that would otherwise enter the atmosphere, and it connects to the wider HyNet network that will transport captured carbon for permanent storage.

Our role is to provide comprehensive cleaning support across both the construction and operational environments, including offices, canteens and welfare facilities, keeping the site safe, compliant and presentable at every stage.

Successful delivery is built on strong leadership, effective planning and, most importantly, a dedicated team on the ground. With an experienced site supervisor, a committed operational team and our Head of Cleaning Operations, Brian, overseeing the project, we continue to deliver the high standards our client expects.”
