Rising concerns among parents and staff about drug use after a few student incidents. Co-op Academy Southfield sought a discreet and effective solution to prevent substance abuse and reassure parents.
Objectives
We arranged unannounced K9 drug detection sweeps in hallways, common areas, and entry points. Dogs were trained to detect a wide range of substances – including cannabis, cocaine, and ecstasy and were accompanied by highly-trained handlers who ensured minimal disruption and calm behaviour in school environments.
Handlers also gave a short, age-appropriate presentation to students, explaining the purpose of the dogs, to help keep everyone safe and not to punish. This educational component helped foster understanding rather than fear K9 deployment.
Co-op Academy Southfield demonstrates that K9 drug detection services offer schools a visible, effective, and educational approach to drug prevention. It’s not just about catching substances – it’s about reinforcing a culture of care, prevention, and community trust.
